*Our* 27th Club, Saturn Return & Progressed Lunar Return

In this entry, we are going to post pictures and a bit of information about all the people who we admire that passed away at 27 or a close age (25/35). But before, we have posted a bit of information about the so-called "27th Club" and 3 theories that want to explain this phenomenon: the Saturn Return, the Progressed Lunar Return and the Erikson Explanation.

The 27 Club is a term that refers to a number of popular musicians who died at age 27, often as a result of drug and alcohol abuse, or violent means such as homicide or suicide. The number of musicians who have died at this age and the circumstances of many of those deaths have given rise to the idea that premature deaths at this age are unusually common.
The "club" has been repeatedly cited in music magazines, journals and the daily press. Several exhibitions have been devoted to the idea, as well as novels, films and stage plays. There have been many different theories and speculations about the causes of such early deaths and their possible connections. Cobain and Hendrix biographer Charles R. Cross writes "The number of musicians who died at 27 is truly remarkable by any standard. [Although] humans die regularly at all ages, there is a statistical spike for musicians who die at 27."
However, a study published in the British Medical Journal in December 2011 concluded that there was no increase in the risk of death for musicians at the age of 27. Although the sampled musicians faced an increased risk of death in their 20s and 30s, this was not limited to the age of 27.

In horoscopic astrology, a Saturn return is an astrological transit that occurs when the planet Saturn returns to the same place in the sky that it occupied at the moment of someone's birth. While the planet may not reach the exact spot until the person is 29 or 30 years old, the influence of the Saturn return is considered to start in the person's late twenties, notably the age of 27.
Psychologically, the first Saturn return is seen as the time of reaching full adulthood, and being faced, perhaps for the first time, with adult challenges and responsibilities.

Every month, the Moon returns to the exact position it held in someone's natal chart (a stylized map of the universe with the "native", the subject or anything to be studied, at the center and it shows the positions of the sun, moon, planets, and potentially other celestial objects, all referred to as the native's "planets") at their time of birth.
The Progressed Moon takes 27-28 years to complete the cycle around the natal chart, and it generally marks an opening of the emotional body that can be exhilarating or painful, depending on the chart and the way the individual handles challenges. The Progressed Lunar Return is a period of about one month's duration and prepares people for the Saturn Return the following year.

German psychologist Erik Erikson, developed a theory about the eight stages of psychosocial development, which happen from birth to 65 and older: hope, will, purpose, competence, fidelity, love (ages 19-40), care and wisdom.
According to Erikson, the psychosocial crisis that occurs between the ages of 18 and 35 is the struggle between intimacy and isolation, and the questions that a person in this stage asks himself or herself are “Shall I share my life with someone or live alone?” and “Am I loved or wanted?”
For a person passing through this potentially turbulent, emotional stage who has financial access to a self-destructive lifestyle and habits, an early death from a drug overdose, alcoholism, accident, reckless living that leads to health issues, suicide, etc., is a possibility. Creative people, including musicians, singers, artists and even comedians, often can have dark sides. It is said that it is from their pain and depression that they are able to create beautiful works of art and music and can move an audience to tearful, side-clenching hilarity. Theoretically, someone prone to substance abuse and isolation may find this crisis impossible to pass through, losing themselves, and even their lives during a crucial time, which just so happens to be around age 27.

We would like to end this post with this beautiful song by The Corrs, "White Light", dedicated to Amy Winehouse, but that we would like to dedicate to all these young and tallented people who left us too early. Click on the title to hear it:

Vague reflection
To stare back like a ghost
Dropping out
To wake with a bolt
It's all a moment
Everything will pass
Your heart grows
From your mistakes

What's in a number?
27 years
Not long enough to learn from your tears
Not long enough to live with the fear
That you just mightn't be done before your time

And all of the beauty
All of the pain
Everything borrowed
Won't happen again
And all that's left is love

White light, shine on a prodigy
Not yet, unfinished symphony
I can't breathe
I see what you could've been
You gotta live long enough to learn how to live

Snapshot
A fading Polaroid
Of a girl
Too sensitive a soul
This flash is blinding
Your hand over your eyes
Don't wanna see
Can't take the glare

Of all of the beauty
All of the pain
Everything borrowed
Won't happen again
And all that's left is love

White light, shine on a prodigy
Not yet, unfinished symphony
I can't breathe
See what you could've been
You gotta live long enough to learn how to live

Curtain fade into memory
Too young wasted a tragedy
Turn back
Be who you'll only be
When you live long enough to learn how to live
Gotta live long enough to learn how to live
Gotta live long enough to learn how to live
Gotta live long enough to learn how to live
You gotta live long enough to learn how to live

White light, shine on a prodigy
Not yet, unfinished symphony
I can't breathe
See what you could've been
You gotta live long enough to learn how to live

White light, shine on a prodigy
Not yet, unfinished symphony
I can't breathe
See what you could've been
You gotta live long enough to learn how to live
Curtain fade into memory
Too young wasted a tragedy
Turn back
Be who you'll only be
When you live long enough to learn how to live
White Light
